Nothing is as grotesque as meat, with or without additives, because meat is made of corpses.
-
You have to consider, in most countries additives are not allowed until proven safe in the long run, where here in the US as long as it doesn't kill you, it's allowed until someone proves it's harmful, ignoring non-leathal short term problems)
-
I think the Government does things that will help them with their bottom line: if people get sick and die, Social Security will be better for the Gov.
All that money going to Cancer Research might be a waste of money if the Gov keeps allowing Corporations to make people sick.
-
Must be that American Exceptionalism that fox "news" keeps talking about
-
Anything safe only in highly small quantities is highly toxic. I've given up on every type of meat but chicken yet nothing last forever. Soon to be vegetarian.
-
Like Cenk says "Of Course"!!!!
-
The FDA allows many harmful things to go in our food because they want you to be sick so they can make mage $$$$ treating you. In the event these things should kill you, guess how much the FDA cares on a scale of 1-10? I'm going with -10.
-
Oh I see; its unsafe if I live in Russia; but safe if I live in the U.S. Just need to live in the correct location.
-
If the additive in question is designed to promote "leanness" in meat, then it's utterly pointless as most of the flavor comes from fat... The unfortunate trend in recent years to provide supposedly more healthful "lean" meat is totally wrong-headed and has resulted in a lot of really bad product on offer. The best meat his heavily marbled with fat... May not be a "correct" opinion these days according to some, but a simple taste test will bear me out on this...

Here's a question for you ... when will YOU EXXON MOBIL stop trying to promote your pro fossil fuel agenda on virtually every liberal video including The David Pakman show and The Young Turks?
-
This is one reason why I became vegan
-
<--- Happily vegetarian.

You can't base a conclusion like this on the political decisions of other countries. Countries make all sorts of crazy political decisions that have little basis in science or reality. Conclusions should be based on actual scientific evidence. While it's good to hold regulatory agencies to task and make sure they have our best interests in mind, that doesn't excuse weaving elaborate conspiracy theories and concocting false attributes.
Take the FDA for example (and I'm sure I'll get flamed by the conspiracy theorists here) - many opinions made about them are based on, well, nothing really, they're just opinions. Most people hear things from pundits and other conspiracy theorists who base conclusions on, at best, tenuous "evidence", and fill in any gaps that exist (and they are substantial).
It's inappropriate to formulate conclusions, or worse, make accusations, with no evidence to back it up, just a vague notion of collusion and shadow conspiracy. Hold them to task, yes, but don't make things up, that just makes matters worse.
On that note, show us the peer-reviewed scientific evidence that the ractopamine present in meats sold for consumption in the amounts given is actually harmful. Sorry, but policy decisions by other countries is not evidence.
Speaking of, why would people trust politicians from other countries any more than our own country, especially when we know less about them than our own politicians?
-
It's not banned in the bible, that's all Americans care about.
-
Stop eating animals. Problem solved
-
This is another marvelous US export we in Europe will soon be able to enjoy along with chlorinated chicken all thanks to secret transatlantic trade agreements.
-
The FDA is such a joke right now - and it's the direct result of big food lobbying to dismantle and disempower it so they can sell us poison.
-
This is the standard vegan bullshit. The carbon foot print for cows on pasture is very small. It gets increased when they are feed crops and cows don't require crops. The carbon foot print comes from crops because crop agriculture is machinery and fertilizer intensive. Pollution from agriculture comes primarily from crop agriculture. Pasture agriculture is sustainable. Crop agriculture is unnatural and unsustainable. Top soil loss is one of the main agricultural crisis that the world will be facing.

Other countries' versions of the FDA make decisions based on a preponderence of evidence, ie if there is enough evidence to put it on the side of unsafe, they won't allow it. In other words, there are studies that show its dangers. The FDA is working with and for the food industry and, unlike elsewhere, has long since abandoned its mission to keep us safe and the food industry honest. There are studies, there is evidence, you just won't hear about it in corporate media. The people who cry bs, it's safe, don't or can't see the fact that they function as the 'useful idiots' to those whose one and only goal is profiteering. they do not care one bit whether it is unhealthy for you. you are useless to them. there are millions like you. unless they can use you in any way, shape, or form, you are taking up valuable space. Unless and until more people understand that power and dominance are the only driving force in certain people, they will fall victim to their lies. they tell you what you want to hear and if you don't play along with their version of reality you become a target. This works for corporate leaders and the aholes in your personal lives. They are all of the same ilk. Read Ph.D.'s like Robert Hare, Martha Stout, and George Simon to understand this subspecies. It is important for our survival as these guys have mental limitations which ultimately prove fatal for all of us. We have to start to disengage with predatory and parasitic people instead of going along to get along.

Another reason to go vegetarian. (BTW what does this poison do?)
