As a young, aspiring singer Javier Solis was a great admirer & imitator of Pedro Infante. After Infante's untimely death in 1957, the market searched for another idol to replace him, this would eventually be Javier Solis but it took him several years to find his own style and become the undispituted King of Mariachi Boleros. In that time, his producers at CBS tried to create a completely different Crooner sound in his 1962 album "Javier Solis en New York". It failed commercially, but it was filed away for the Solis cult to find decades later. Besame Mucho, the world reknown bolero composed by Consuelo Velasquez, needs no introduction or translation. My favorite version, is actually the original by Emilio Tuero in 1940.. but this is also a favorite (besides I am having trouble finding the Tuero version since my cassette broke).
