Thanks this is a scary video and yes i think you are right this is the future and it will come. The question is how will we handle it what can we do about it. We will have millions without jobs and we are still thinking in this " you need a job to have a certain worth" kind of way. So either we change how we look at work or we will have millions of unemployeed people. Scary, scary, scary and it will be interesting how we will deal with the issue.
-
What if all jobs are gone
-
Answer is : BASIC INCOME!
-
so many comments, and no one is bringing up the elephant in the room: the world is already severely overpopulated. with inevitable exponential progression of self teaching AI, it is a requirement that only the needed human beings are kept alive. the more scarce the resources, the more cutting of dead weight or non contributing, over consuming humans.
-
i want a robot that can memorize an input recipe, clean and prepare ingredients, cook, and do the dishes. will always be perfect and exactly how you want it.
i think automation is good, as long as AI doesn't enslave us, humans dont have to work anymore. we can holiday everyday, relax, surf the internet, exercise, eat healthy, socialize, etc. everything will be super efficient if there is a global AI network working like a perfect symphony. combine this with CRISPR, and 99.999% of us and our natural genetic bloodline is inferior. only superior humans will live unmatched godly lives served by perfect network of AI, controlled and maintained by superior human race.
-
We should make a bot to find the solution to the jobs and income problem.
-
is CGP Grey a bot?!
-
The real question to ask is what do we do if the robots ask for payment?
-
4:00 Jesus Christ Gray!
-
Don't know why I'm watching this, it's making me worried about my future
-
Bill Burr was right.
-
tfw fully automated luxury communism
-
surely once robots are able to do every job humans need to do in order to survive e.g. grow food, make clothing, build houses, treat the sick, uphold the law humans will finally be able to live in an eden? whilst automation may begin as a result of a desire for profit the end of such progress is surely massively beneficial as the only reason humans have jobs in the first place is so that as a society we can all survive.
-
wow. this was really thought provoking. im glad i watched it!
-
I suppose professional sports might persist - although coaches and team managers are replaceable?
-
It kinda sounds like this video is assuming that humans always need a job or an income, and that's what we need to be planning for. But if robots eventually replace all jobs, couldn't we just get rid of money and instead trade based on necessity? In fact, what would we even need trade for? Goods could just be moved to where they're needed on the basis of importance. If work loses its value because there aren't any people actually doing it, what will we need money for? The only thing I can think of is to get things first, and what'll that mean if you know eventually everyone will have it? It seems greed and impatience are the only reasons for money and equal (1 for 1) give/take agreements, and so the only problem is time.
-
How I imagine this reality working is that eventually all jobs will be taken up by robots, robots will be programmed by humans to programme themselves so that humans don't need to programme robots, at this point where humans are electively useless, we will then start focusing our lives on education and improving ourselves. It's a lot like how in video games where you create robots to automate everything, such as factorio, then eventually there is nothing left to do and you get bored of the game and start doing something else. I feel that human civilisation will start to 'do something else' in a sense. This something else would most logically be to try to improve humans to where they are capable of doing jobs where robots would be incapable. The robots at this point would be where the humans were when the robots first took over. Now here the humans would improve robots again where they would take over and then it would be an infinite loop of exponential growth.
This hurt my brain trying to write, hopefully this made sense.
Edit: after reading a few comments I realised that I missed a few key points in my theory.
1. I accidentally explained it as if humans wanted there jobs, but instead all they want is a world where they don't need jobs and everyone can live happy and free.
2. Humans will probably never take the jobs away from the robots unless something completely random happens in which case the humans are forced to work for them selves again.
Humans would use this free time to live in a sort of 'utopia' where life is perfect and hassle free.
I say this because my current understanding of life as of January 2017, is that you grow up and get a job so that you can pay to live a happy life which is taken up by the job you have, until eventually you get 'older' and retire and live the life you have been wanting to live this entire time. But in this 'future' (I know it's happening almost now, but almost now is still the future) humans wouldn't need jobs taking up their time, so they would just live there live how they want as if they had complete freedom.
Reading this back to myself it sounds as if I am a robot near the end. Creepy
But anyway that just a theory, an economic/future of human kind THEORY. Thanks for reading

So basically if bots would do all the work how would people get money?
-
I am special, so is every Human i know.

This is the very definition of a false problem.
