Agricoltura, POLITICAL THEORY - Karl Marx

Karl Marx remains deeply important today not as the man who told us what to replace capitalism with, but as someone who brilliantly pointed out certain of its problems. The School of Life, a pro-Capitalist institution, takes a look. If you like our films, take a look at our shop (we ship worldwide): https://goo.gl/O1tWri

“Most people agree that we need to improve our economic system somehow. It threatens our planet through excessive consumption, distracts us with irrelevant advertising, leaves people hungry and without healthcare, and fuels unnecessary wars. Yet we’re also often keen to dismiss the ideas of its most famous and ambitious critic, Karl Marx. This isn’t very surprising. In practice, his political and economic ideas have been used to design disastrously planned economies and nasty dictatorships. Frankly, the remedies Marx proposed for the ills of the world now sound a bit demented. He thought we should abolish private property. People should not be allowed to own things. At certain moments one can sympathise. But it’s like wanting to ban gossip or forbid watching television. It’s going to war with human behaviour. And Marx believed the world would be put to rights by a dictatorship of the proletariat; which does not mean anything much today. Openly Marxist parties received a total of only 1,685 votes in the 2010 UK general election, out of the nearly 40 million ballots cast…”

capitalism is the only thing that works and allows relative freedom and democracy, Communism if implemented fully will always lead to abuse of power by people in gvt and brutal dictatorships nothing in this world is perfect even capitalism but there's a reason why all communist countries are authoritarian in some way and most are moving away from this system eg China

Nice work School of Life,
-
Marxism and neo marxism (cultural marxism) are incredibly divisive ideologies.
Communism and socialism killed many tens of millions and many more tens of millions starved. It is an oppresssive and totalitarian dogma.
Many forget this and today additionaly, just like in this video do not realise Marx criticised capitalism and aristocratic societies of over a hundred years ago.
We have social security, healthcare, environmental protection laws, labor laws etc. etc.
-
Capitalism = you keep what you earn. Marxism = what you earn belongs to everyone.
Marx based his theories on static models, like factory work. Of course factory work alienates people, it's hard, it sucks, you're tired when you get home, the next day you do it all over again.
Today's Marxism is an attack on America, disguised as "workers rights", etc. I and my fellow Americans wish to keep what we earn, it's ours, not yours.
Marx's views on marriage were of course anti-spiritual, anti-family, anti-children, anti-God. Marriage is, of course, a spiritual bond between a man and a woman, not a contract, like he thought, to increase profits.
Sadly, this poor, empty hearted anti-human died a miserable old hag. If only he embraced capitalism....the right to be free, to own what you make, to not be a slave to your labor but to own it.

This guy might be Marxist idk

Communism is actually good and bad, the same is true of capitalism. The most successful political systems are those that mix the two ideologies. Look at Cuba, a communist country with little or no freedom of speech. An ultra authoritarian system of government, and yet there is free education and health care for all. Look at America with freedom of speech but no proper national health system and a top heavy military that spends trillions fighting futile wars.

There is nothing american about communism

Karl Marx is an intellectual. But his theory has one MAJOR flaw. i would consider myself a libertarian. a group associated with conservatives but with a stronger belief in individual freedoms. Though Marx theory is from the opposite side of things, it's actually very interesting. it is a novel idea and i like it, less the personal property and inheritance. But his flaw is he doesn't understand human nature. Not everyone is an intellectual or capable of free thought. More specifically, 98-99% are not capable of it. As an example of it, look at the ghettos. Most people don't work yet they have in insatiable apetite for wealth, no respect for others than out of fear of violence, and huge amounts of crime. So, though a great idea, it'd never work outside of a police state.

Just replace the proletariat with robot slaves boom problem solved

Marx's ideas can't withstand even a high schooler's scrutiny.
Not only are his ideas bad and hopelessly flawed, they are downright evil. It's amazing that so many people around the world allow their (tyrannical) leaders to implement this economic system.
Further proof that the whole problem with the world is not the unequal distribution of wealth and income, but rather the uneven distribution of freedom and capitalism. Freedom is the cause, wealth is the effect.

Karl Marx had good intentions, but his ideas were not that good. He made these crazy assumptions which messed with his philosophy. He assumed that we have enough resources and goods to give to everyone and that capitalists were taking it. This is flawed. First off, the only reason we have economic systems is to distribute LIMITED resources. We don't have an endless supply of things to hand out to everyone. He wants everyone to own everything and do what they want to do, essentially an increased standard of living. The way standard of living increases is through capitalism. Also, in Marxism there is no incentive to work and to produce things, therefore people would just go poor, although equal to everyone else. In capitalism, there exists incentives to work, such as wanting to increase your standard of living by making money. The more each person produces, the more the standard of living of a society increases. Communism will not help society, in fact it hurts society. The only way communism would work is if we had unlimited resources that would pop out of thin air, that no one would need to work to get. But, we do not live in this world. We need a system which people will get goods and services for their work, which is why we have capitalism.

Ideology lays in the very presence of the final word: "Subscribe"

Wow I didn't know how distorted Marx was made, it makes sense this mans thoughts are to be feared. I'm so intrigued, maybe I'll buy a book from him

Presentation was awesome! you educated at Cambridge??

Communism is actually a good thing if practiced purely. People corrupted communism, not the idea itself. As a matter of fact, there's never been a real communist society.. ever.

This is another very sympathetic analysis of a philosopher. Little criticism. Marx never worked a day in his life but was dependent on Engels for a living. How did Engels get his wealth - through capitalistic endeavour.
